The analysts at Canalys declared the Android platform as number 1 based on phone shipments, surpassing Nokia’s Symbian platform. Reaching 32.9 million shipments in Q4 2010, Android got ahead of Nokia with almost 2 million handset devices.
The top smartphones providing the platform were HTC, Samsung, LG and Acer, the first two totaling almost 45% of the shipments. The largest markets were in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Android also has one of the largest community of developers in the market.
Canalys also noted the 2011 will surely be a very competitive year in the smartphone industry.

i think android is going to be huge in the next 2-5 years. and I am also a very proud own of a samsung galaxy s using android 2.3
