While the iPhone app store holds the top dog position in quantity of apps, Android has been ranked as the most used smartphone platform. The two giants also differ in pricing policies. Apple’s max limit for the appstore is $999,99 while Google limits Android to $200 per app.

The analysts at Canalys declared the Android platform as number 1 based on phone shipments, surpassing Nokia’s Symbian platform. Reaching 32.9 million shipments in Q4 2010, Android got ahead of Nokia with almost 2 million handset devices.

With 4 million app downloads daily, Nokia finally reached the 30,000 milestone in its Ovi Store.
In the meantime, the top tier of application markets is still held by Apple’s iOS platform with over 350,000 apps and Google’s Android at about 200,000. The Ovi Store is placed just above the Blackberry’s RIM that holds 17,000 apps and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 with 6,500.
